About our

Internships


As Shine Global is a small company, interns are very involved in everything that goes on in our office. This provides them with the opportunity to be exposed to the inside workings of independent film production at a variety of stages. Shine Global is also a non-profit and interns also work with Shine Global in this capacity, providing insight into the workings of a non-profit organization. This can be a hybrid position if based in NYC, or a fully remote position if elsewhere.

For all internships positions we are looking for candidates that:

  • Are an undergraduate student of an accredited college or university
  • Be able to dedicate 2-3 days a week
  • Have at least 3.0 GPA
  • Are interested in social advocacy, educational outreach, non-profit business, and/or media
  • Have excellent organizational, communication, writing skills, and research skills.
  • Be familiar with MAC OS, Microsoft Office, social networking, and internet research
  • Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines with little supervision
  • Must have your own computer or access to a computer and internet to work remotely.

All internships are unpaid but we will work with you to receive college credit if you need it.

For Summer 2024, Shine Global is looking to hire three interns.

Outreach & Engagement Intern

The Outreach & Engagement Intern works with staff on our social engagement, impact strategy development, and grassroots distribution. In 2024, we will be working on the distribution and outreach for our latest projects focusing on immigration reform, (Home Is Somewhere Else) and refugees (From This Small Place) as well as all our past films through our IGNITE program. We also are in development/production on several new projects looking at autism, child labor, mental health, and fostering resilience in children and will be researching and developing outreach and impact strategies for these projects.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manage community distribution requests and fulfillment
  • Identify possible outreach and distribution partners
  • Research issues for current and possible projects
  • Assist in project fundraising
  • Monitor press mentions and relevant news
  • Work with staff on creating and implementing outreach and impact strategy
  • Assist with other projects and administrative tasks as needed

Marketing/Content Intern

The Shine Global marketing/content intern works with staff in 1) social media content creation, curation, and posting in support of our films and impact work; 2) researching and exploring new project ideas

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Work with staff to refine and implement social media strategy
  • Source and create relevant content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other platforms
  • Conduct research and do coverage on possible stories
  • Evaluate proposed projects based on Shine Global’s criteria
  • Work with team to develop project presentations and treatments as necessary
  • Research issues for current and possible projects
  • Assist in project fundraising/funding strategy
  • Monitor press mentions and relevant news
  • Assist with other projects and administrative tasks as needed
  • Video editing skills are a plus
  • Graphic design skills are a plus

Film Award Intern

The Film Award Intern is responsible for assisting the Shine Global team with the film selection process for the Resilience Awards. This position will primarily assist the team with researching potential films, screening/reviewing film submissions, film screening and award show event planning (these events will occur in the Fall,) and research/data entry.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Processing and organizing film submissions in FilmFreeway (training provided)
  • Assisting with assigning submissions and managing volunteer screener workflow
  • Researching potential films and maintaining tracking spreadsheets
  • Screening film submissions as needed
  • Assist with content gathering and proofreading/editing for the ticketing sites and other materials.
  • Assist with event planning as needed.
  • Assist with other Shine Global projects and administrative tasks as needed

In addition to the above general criteria, our ideal candidate for the Film Award internship would also possess the following

  • Very strong interest in independent and/or international cinema and film festival culture
  • Critical eye for high-quality films that align with Shine Global’s mission
  • Video editing and/or graphic design skills are a plus
